Mother's Day Flower Pots
Materials: Small flower pots ($.56 at Wal-Mart and the kids can bring this in), seeds,
potting soil, paints
This project is good for all ages of students. I have done this with K-1 and and 4-5
class. I like to do a unit on plants and I choose this because it is the culminating
activity for our unit. After studying about plants and what they need to grow, the
students grow a flower to give to their mom on Mother's Day. I pick a flower that will
begin to sprout within 7 days. We start about 14 days before Mother's Day. The students
paint their pots and plant their seed. They take care of it, making sure it has the four
needs met, (air, water, soil, and sunlight). This works out to be a great end to our unit
and a wonderful gift for mothers.

Make
a bookmark that will become a keepsake for all your mothers. Print out the
words, I Love To Sit and Read With You, on pink construction paper. Cut in long
rectangles (3"x7"). The children add a border around the message and decorate
the back. Laminate, punch a hole in the top, and add a ribbon. It's a nice way
to encourage reading together.
